ABOUT US

How it all started

The story of Cocohouse Benelux starts 20 years ago when the longstanding friendship between Joachim and Robbert was established. Both are from the same small town in Belgium with common interests and friends. Although the real start of Cocohouse Benelux is beginning of 2021 when both met up for a drink and in a brainstorm session immediately connected on the vision, interest and passion to start with a business to import products with a sustainable and ethical character onto the Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg market. The foundations for the East Brabant Trading Company (EBTC) are being laid. Both are soaked with the travel virus and have combined been into more than 100 countries.

Through the year long experience in the international social club, Round Table, Robbert meets Altaf on many journeys all over the world from New York to Lapland where a friendship with him and his friends from Sri Lanka started. Together with Round Table Belgium, various charity projects have been done in Sri Lanka, eg buying shoes for children to go to school, donate money to buy land for elderly to cultivate themselves and supporting victims from the terrorist attacks that struck Sri Lanka in April 2019.

The foundation of friendship and trust with Altaf and the Sri Lankan friends has been founded in this period. Thanks to Altaf, who is one of the investors of Cocohouse, we got in touch with Dulara ( CEO and co-investor of Cocohouse/Ceylon Exports & Trading) who explained and let us learn about Cocohouse vision and strategy ( see Why Cocohouse to discover more). Both Joachim and Robbert were 100% convinced about their story and that this is the kind of partner we want to see a future with, where ethical values and sustainability are the main pillars they strive on.

Together with all our partners, we want to remove to inequality and poverty in various global value chains, including the global agricultural value chain, by partnering with the right investors and educating our customers that there is an alternative.
